Which one is secured “Telnet or SSH”?

When it comes to our web servers and workstations, the most important issue that we come across is security. To cure the systems of viruses, security holes and software exploits, it is very necessary to keep up on the latest patches and updates. Telnet is the most One of the most admired ways of working on the internet.

Basically, Telnet lets a user to open a session on a remote server and work in the file system as though the person was sitting in front of the machine. This concept brings security to mind instantly – what if someone were able to get my password? They could easily gain access to the actual machine from anywhere! There is a more secure solution available that just requires a few more configurations to set up, but it do provides a far more secure setting and connection to your remote server.

The solution I am saying about is the Secure Shell (SSH). SSH will permit you the same benefits of telnet without the plain text, “open” connection from every corner of the internet. You can configure SSH to use an encrypted pass-phrase instead of a plain text password to authenticate your users. That means the likelihood of someone hitting access to your machine is almost impossible.

For a further security measure you should restrict the SSH connections to specific IP addresses – this will cause anyone outside the set of permitted IP’s to be denied access via SSH even if they have your pass phrase. Working through Telnet is a fantastic way to work; until you are hacked into you will agree that it is not that secure.

So, to increase your network security, upgrade your web servers and workstations to take the benefits of SSH and disable all Telnet services and clients.
