How to Save Disk Space on Your Server

While choosing a Web Hosting plan, the Disk space is ordered as per your requirement. But, after hosting your website, when your business starts to grow, that time you may recognize that the disk space is not enough for you. In that case you may have only two options – either change your current web hosting plan and pay for additional disk space, or preserve some disk space.

Following are the few tips that will help you to preserve your disk space.

Re-examine the graphics and media files

Visit your website and see if the website design contains lots of images or any media files, that you can take out a few graphic files. Check whether the use of colors in flyers, advertisements, banners and graphics explore the chances of reducing the amount of colors.

Look if the pictures have animation or rolling text, try making it still. Review all the design and graphics cautiously and make a note of all possibilities where changes can decrease the full size.

Re-examine the files

Check out the file types which are used for the graphics and contents. For ex. you can change the weighty image files such as .PNG or .BMP with JPEG files which almost maintain the unique image quality as well. In the same way, if you have some PDF files or PowerPoint presentation, try to compact those to ZIP files for visitors.

Updating Content

Examine all the contents and see if you really need all the content. Many times the content becomes outdated after a specific period. Rather than doing it yourself, use a professional content writer to clean off the content, and reduce it if possible.

Finally, don’t forget to keep a backup copy of all contents, graphics and images that you delete from your website. It assures that a copy of the previous version the website is all the time with you.
